Almost Ready
So, here I sit, 38 weeks and 2 days (but who's counting) and still pregnant. My impatience to meet this little girl is growing with each passing day. I was hoping that this little girl's version of "ready" would hit right about now, but it seems that she has different ideas. At my doctor's appointment yesterday morning, I really wanted her to come in, check my cervix, and tell me that I was 4 centimeters and she'd just go ahead and send me over to the unit and break my water. Apparently though, my cervix is still showing no signs of relenting anytime soon. According to my doctor, it is "softer." Which is what she said last week, so I can only assume that means "no change." I guess this kid wouldn't be her mother's daughter if she didn't take her sweet time getting somewhere. In the meantime, Jay and I are going to enjoy these last few precious hours of adult-only time together. By which, I mean, we'll be sleeping in every chance we get!
In other news, Jay and I took our last road trip this past weekend. His brother graduated from law school in Champaigne, IL, so we headed out for the day to help him celebrate. The two hours in the car there, three hours sitting in theatre seats (thank goodness we didn't have to sit on bleachers!), and the two hour drive back home wore me out a bit, but it wasn't horrific. I'm glad we were able to go. It will probably be a while before we take another quick road trip so easily.
It took us three months to get it ready, but Jay and I have at last finished the nursery. I can't help but post a few pictures. I love how it turned out!
I have to brag on my sister Bekah for a minute--she painted the three pictures above the bed. Love them!!
We all know that I can claim no talents in the arts and crafts area, so my mom had to help make the curtains. But, um, they were my idea, at least. :)
I know that she won't ever remember it, but I think, to a degree, the nursery's progress has been an outward symbol of our mental preparedness for this baby's arrival. Once I put all of the closet organizers in place, washed and dried all of the little clothes, organized the toys in their bins, hung the pictures, and arranged the furniture perfectly, it suddenly seemed real that she was going to be here. Obviously, I have been increasingly pregnant and growing over the last months, but up to this point, this whole baby venture has been more conceptual than absolute. Once I actually had a place in my house carved out for her, the fact that she is actually going to be arriving soon REALLY set in. We are ready to a point, but I wonder how we'll ever be completely prepared for what's to come...
