Like a virgin...

...Blogging for the very first time! (My apologies to those readers with a sophisticated sense of humor, but I couldn't resist. My husband will be shrinking into his desk chair with embarrassment when he reads this.)

Now that I've gotten that out of the way (and in the process scared off any readers I might have actually had), I have decided to join the legions of others in the 21st century who blog. Make no mistake, I fully understand that the world has hardly been waiting with bated breath for my thoughts, which is why I will be doing it more for my self than for anyone else. My inspirations?

  • Impending parenthood. You may have gathered from the title of the blog that I have some apprehensions about parenthood. My husband of five and a half years and I recently found out that we are going to be parents. Now, this is something that we have eagerly awaited for some time; and, we are (mostly) ecstatic about this new venture. However, it is a life change wont for reflection. The reflections, of course, I will save for a later blog.

  • My failing memory. That really should be explanation enough, but I'll expound. I can hardly remember what I did over the weekend, let alone funny stories from a month ago. Ask me what I wore yesterday. My best guess would be that I wore scrubs or pajamas. And that would only be a shot in the dark since I seem to spend the vast majority of my time either working or sleeping. When I gather with friends, I laugh along halfheartedly to vague memories, whereas they seem to recall old stories with much detail and great hilarity. To add insult to injury, I have become increasingly spacey with the pregnancy, almost as if all my blood is being shunted away from my brain to support the being within me.

  • Journaling. On a purely sentimental note, and one not a little related to number 2, I would like to remember what I'm feeling, thinking, saying, and even eating while I am pregnant. This period of my life is one that I have looked forward to for so long, that I want to (cliche as it sounds) savor every last bit of it. Perhaps more importantly, if time or a small child permits, my goal is to continue this long after the pregnancy is over. That of course means that the 8 readers I have will probably be bombarded with mundane, everyday stories about the lives of my child(ren), as well as pictures, pictures, pictures. What sort of mother would I be if I had no brag book?

This all being said, I have never been the sort of person to regularly keep a journal. I really don't even care to write. Sometimes I find myself inspired, more frequently, however, I do not. Hopefully, the motivations I have mentioned above will keep me at this long enough to make it a worthwhile undertaking.
